A Unique Approach

Clear & Engaging Writing about Complex Natural Resource Topics:

I draw on my training in journalism, master’s degree in geomorphology and years of working with interdisciplinary teams on natural resource projects to write about the environment in ways that are scientifically accurate while being enjoyable and informative for intelligent lay people.

Because I speak the languages of planning, engineering and the earth and natural sciences, I have researched and written about natural history for a range of publications including museum and outdoor interpretive exhibits, best practice manuals, trade journals, outreach education and public relations pieces, newsletters, press releases, guidebooks and proposals.

Boots to Suits Training

By recognizing and harnessing existing leadership and expertise in my clients’ organizations, I build energetic collaborative teams to develop tailored training programs. I support these teams to deliver education in ways that enhance work-group morale and create positive internal public relations.

Boots to SuitsI hold lifetime certification to instruct geology, geography and geophysics at California Community Colleges. I taught watershed science at Mt. Hood Community College (Gresham, Oregon) for nine years, and have researched, prepared and presented dozens of training workshops for professional organizations and specialized work groups.

Expertise in Erosion, Nonpoint Source Pollution Prevention & Water Resource Protection

Expertise in ErosionAs a physical geographer interested in erosion, my primary professional focus is the protection of water resources at the interface of civilization. My joy is to contribute to cutting-edge work in the development of water resource protection policies, practices and programs in forestry, agriculture, watersheds, wetlands, rivers and streams, parks, wildlands, greenspaces and urban settings.

I served on a statewide team to develop Oregon’s Watershed Health program and have been a core member of the consultant team developing the Willamette Riverbank Design Notebook – a patternbook of best practices for riverbank redevelopment to sustain people, fish and wildlife. I have served on countless technical advisory teams to advance water resource protection in the Pacific Northwest.
